What We Are Doing With Social Media

We are doing some re-branding here at Christian Fellowship Church.  Just like with our new logo, we are looking to recast the vision of our church.

I keep six honest serving-men
(The taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who
                                             - Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling's friends are here to help us know the what, the why, the when, the how, the where, and the who of it all.

Now.  Take a breath.  And don’t panic, because the whos and whats are going to be out of order.  This is exciting stuff!

Who:  Us.  Christian Fellowship Church.  The community of people that make up CFC.  We are a people-oriented church, which is good, because Jesus tells us to “love one another,” just as He loved us (John 13:34-35).

Why:  In a world increasingly technologically driven, we have been given so many additional avenues to reach the masses.  Social media, and the Internet in general, puts a whole new slant on the Great Commission.  When Jesus told the Apostles, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” I think He knew reaching the world would look different in 2015.  Something we put on our website (or any social media) might just be seen by someone in New York, New Zealand, or Newfoundland.

It is not solely about reaching the masses, though.  It is also for us.  We want to use our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as additional ways to connect as a body.  Social media is a great way to interact throughout the week.

We plan to use social media to make sure the people of CFC stay encouraged, involved, and informed.

What:  Website, Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.

When:  Yesterday.  Well, already.  With the recent employment of Rachel Sinclair as Administrative Assistant, we now have someone to vamp up our internet presence.  So, our online initiative is already underway.  Look for weekly posts, tweets, blogs, updates, and more.

Where:  Your computers, your phones, your tablets, your iPads, your...well, you get the picture.

How:  This is where you come in.  The beauty of social media is that it can be shared.  That is how we get the word out and reach more people.  So, start by liking our Facebook page and following us on Instagram and Twitter.  Then, when we post/blog/tweet, you can interact with us: share your thoughts, ask questions, answer questions we have asked, and carry on the conversation.  In addition to these types of dialogues, social media gives us the opportunity to share information with the world.  So, when we post something on Facebook, you can share it on your own wall.  When we tweet, you can favorite the tweet and retweet it so that your followers can see it.  When you see something on Instagram, you can like it and choose to share it to your other social media.

Social media can get crazy and overwhelming, but it is a really good tool and a fun one at that!

And breathe.  Now you know what we are doing and why, how we are doing it, and how you can be involved in spreading the word and staying engaged.
